‘I didn’t say she wants to date; I just meant, in case she decided to, I don’t want to be in her way. Tee, I am so sorry.’
‘I am tired of everyone apologising to me! I don’t need an apology. I need you guys to fix this!’
Titi stormed off to the bathroom. ‘I need to get ready for the party. That’s probably the only good thing in my life right now.’
‘I am sorry, Tee, I love you so much. This is not going to change. I will always be there for you when you need me.’
‘You have a call.’ Titi said to her dad. She saw the WhatsApp video call icon. ‘Who is video calling you? Titi came out of the bathroom to look at the name on her dad’s phone. ‘Who is Teni?’
‘Erm, it’s my friend.’ Her father ended the call. ‘I will call back later.’
Titi knew her dad well enough to know when he was hiding something.
‘Daddy, who was that?’
‘My friend. Don’t worry about it; freshen up and then come downstairs. I am going to pick up your cake.’ Dare started to walk away.
‘Mr Dare Williams. Can I see your phone?’ Titi was sure she had seen the name Teni.
‘Titi, I know you are upset but you can’t talk to me that way.” Dare was trying not to worsen things.
‘Daddy, are you dating someone else???’
Dare was shocked at the question because his daughter had made the connection in less than a minute. He had tried his best to keep Teni out of the way, but he knew Titi wasn’t going to let it go, till she had some answers.
‘Tee, keep your voice down; your mother will hear you. I will tell you everything later.’
‘You are dating someone else??? Daddy!’
‘Titi, calm down. We are not dating. We just went for drinks a couple of times and…’
Titi ran off. Her father ran after her, but she was too fast for him. She brushed past her mum, who was shocked to see her running out with just her pyjamas.
‘Titi! Egbami! What’s going on? Dare!’
Dare sped past her as well. Confused, she ran after two of them just in time to see that Titi had zoomed off in Dare’s car. Dare was trying to start the other vehicle at home.
‘Ah! Dare, what did you say to her? You know she can’t drive your car well. Ah! Mo daran!’
As they both drove after their only child, they stopped suddenly at the bend when they saw Titi’s car summersault and crash into the grocery store.
Bimpe’s heart stopped.
